I just recently closed on this house here in the lovely and quirky neighborhood of Fair Haven, located within the city of New Haven, just blocks from the Quinnipiac River. I am elated. For the first time in my life I will have my own space with a backyard that has a fantastic garden space. But with the rush of excitment and anticipation that comes with buying a house, here comes the twinge of overwhelm. This is a big responsibilty. More importantly, owning a home presents you with a certain obligation, in my opinion, to find ways to contribute to the community, to make your block a better place to live. But the excitement reves back up when I think about the opportunity this garden space affords me. What better way to collaborate and connect with neighbors than to begin a very local food distribution system in your backyard?
